Liking Lichens:
Presented by Oconee River Georgia Youth Science & Technology Center (GYSTC) at Northeast Georgia Regional Educational Service Agency Instructors: Bob Hill, Tommy Jordan, Sean Beeching Join a highly successful program! Now in its fifth year!
Applications are now being accepted. Lichens are symbiotic organisms comprised of algae and fungi. They color trees, rocks, boulders, and soil - covering 8% of the Earth's surface - and have many uses, including to monitor environmental quality due to their pollution sensitivity. This subsidized TEACHER WORKSHOP is designed to enhance
educators' understanding of LICHEN biology, ecology, natural history,
identification, and uses through classroom, laboratory, and field studies; to
assist in building a lichen biomonitoring network; and to develop geospacial
knowledge and mapping skills. It is tailored to the Georgia Performance
Standards for Science.
Course Requirements for PLUs:
Eligibility: Educators in Georgia Schools or Education Centers demonstrating the value of this workshop to enhance teaching & learning
